How to Get Customers to Leave Positive Reviews for Your Business

Edited by Charity Chezum • September 1, 2020

About 76% of customers read reviews before buying a product or choosing a company’s services. If the reviews they find are good, these customers are more likely to give your business their trust (and their money).

But how do you get your customers to actually leave positive reviews?

We’ve put together a few strategies that’ll encourage your customers to review your business—and it's not as hard as you might think.

Here’s how to get started.

1. Make It as Easy as Possible

Just because a customer is happy with your products/services doesn’t mean they will leave a review. In fact, customers are more likely to put effort into writing a review if their experience was a bad one.

So you have to make leaving a review as easy as possible.

Give them a lot of different options. Set your business up on websites like Yelp and Google Local[1] and social medias like Facebook. No matter where your customers spend their time, they won’t have to go out of their way to leave a review.

2. Give Them an Incentive

Want your customers to tell you what they thought of your product/service? Then make writing an online review worth their while.

For example, you can give them a small incentive for reviewing your business, such as:

  • Entering them into a prize drawing
  • Giving them coupon codes
  • Sending them a gift card
  • Giving them special deals
  • Etc.

However, it’s important that you ask your customers for honest reviews. You should never bribe them to say good things about you as this is unethical.

3. Just Ask

Remember, your customers won’t always go out of their way to leave a review even if they loved your business. That doesn’t mean they don’t want to write one—they just aren’t thinking about it.

But all you have to do is ask them. According to research[2], 70% of customers will review a business if they're asked to do so.

4. Follow up If Necessary

Did you ask your customers for reviews and still didn’t get anything? It’s easy to forget, so don’t give up yet.

Instead, follow up with your customers and ask them again to write a business review if they haven’t already. Once they see your reminder, there’s a good chance they’ll sit down and write what they thought about your products/services.

It should come as no surprise that every year brings back trends we’ve seen before and introduces new trends that completely change the way websites are designed. It’s one thing to read about web design trends in blogs, but it’s another to hear it directly from web design experts themselves.
